From the top of a tower the angle of depression of an object on the horizontal ground is found to be 60 degree.on descending 20 m vertically downwards from the top of the tower, the angle of the depression of the object is found to be 30 degree.find the height of the tower.

Let the height of tower be (x+20) m

Let the distance between foot of tower and object be 'y' m

tan 60 = \sqrt{3\\} = \frac{x+20}{y}

y = \frac{x+20}{\sqrt{3} } m ... (i)

tan 30 = \frac{1}{\sqrt{3} } = \frac{x}{y}

y = x\sqrt{3} m ... (ii)

(i) = (ii) ;

\frac{x+20}{\sqrt{3} } = x\sqrt{3}

x + 20 = 3x

x = 10

Therefore, height of tower = x + 20 = 30 m
