From their location in the diagram, what are two possible values for m and n?

Given :   n is rational number but not integer

m irrational number  

To Find : possible values for n and m

n = -8/4  , m = √3

n = 3  1/3  m = 0.6

n = 7/5  , m = √5

n =√2  , m = √9

Solution :

rational number = p/q   where p and q are integers q ≠ 0

n is rational number but not integer   hence q = 1  when p & q are co primes

n = -8/4  = - 2   is integer  ( not satisfying)

m = √3  = irrational  

n = 3  1/3   = 10/3   rational but not integer

m = 0.6     =6/10   not irrational   ( not satisfying)

n = 7/5  rational but not integer

m = √5  irrational  

Hence this pair satisfying both

n =√2   irrational   ( not satisfying)

m = √9 = 3   not irrational   ( not satisfying)
