The plants obtain Nitrogen from the soil to synthesise proteins.

The Nitrogen from the atmosphere is fixed in the soil by some microscopic organisms such as rizobium . This micro organsims require nitrogen for producing energy. when they die they leave the Nitrogen back into the soil. so this nitrogen is used up by the plants.

something during lightning the atmospheric nitrogen will get fixed up in soil.
