Democracy is the rule by people as people play important role in running government.

Democracy first started in Athens of Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece was a collection of independent city states where democratic Athens and Sparta had great prominence.

Democracy is derived from (a)Greek term demokrtia which was a combination of two words ‘demos’ and ‘kratos’.

The term ‘demos’ mean people or all the citizens living in a particular area or city state and ‘kratos’ mean power or rule.
