When solid, liquid, and gases are heated they usually expand. this happens due to increase in the kinetic energy of molecules. On heating they start moving faster and away from each other which makes them expand.
real expansion of liquid = apparent expansion of liquid + volume expansion of the container
If gas is cooled, it
changes to water (liquid). This change is called condensing.
If water (liquid) is cooled, it changes to ice (solid). This change is called
freezing. Water freezes at 0° C.
Different solids have different melting and freezing point and behave differently when heated or when cold
