Fugacity models serve as an important model type for description of chemical fate, transport, and transformation in multiple environmental compartments. The first section of this chapter provides a brief review on the development and application of fugacity model since the beginning of the 1980s. During the development process, fugacity models were extended via temporary (from Levels I to IV) and spatial (from regional to global) scale, as well as via the incorporation of important components (such as food webs). The second section of this chapter provides a case study of a quantitative water–air sediment interaction (QWASI) fugacity model, which was developed and applied to characterize the environmental behavior of 15 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a well-defined ecosystem, i.e., a vegetation-dominant lake in China. We conclude that fugacity models are powerful tools for environmental risk assessment, which are applicable for both small and large
