Correct Question:

If one zero of quadratic polynomial be the reciprocal of the other, then value of k is:

The polynomial is 3x² + 5x + k.

Solution:

The zeroes or the roots of the polynomial are reciprocal of each other. Then we can consider the roots be α and 1/α.

  • Product of the zeroes is given by constant term / coefficient of x². So, according to these relation:

➝ α × 1/α = k / 3

The product of reciprocals is 1.

➝ 1 = k / 3

Cross multiplying to get the value of k,

➝ k = 3 (Answer)

Tip:

Most of the times, we remember the sum and product of zeroes in terms of a,b and c by comparing the quadratic polynomial with ax² + bx + c, but according to me we should remember by the coefficient relation which is easier and accurate.
