Students work in small groups to explore lines. Each group will have a laser pointer and a journal to record their discoveries. Groups are taken outside and given tasks to complete with the laser pointer such as "point the laser into the open sky" or "stand 10 feet from the tree and point the laser directly at it." After each task, groups are to record their observations of the lasers (line). Have the groups discuss their discoveries. Groups then use their bodies to demonstrate each term and then take a picture of the formation. They create as many different configurations of the term as they can, taking a picture of each one. When finished, students pull their pictures into Photo Grid. After all groups are finished have them take turns sharing their collages. Students try to guess which term each group had and explain how they knew.
Step-by-step explanation:
Students work on iXL 4th grade, lessons P.13 and P.29, to practice their line and angle skills.Put students into groups and give them a check-off list of the terms used during this lesson. Take the groups outside and ask them to find creative examples of each term in the environment and photograph them. Once the groups are finished, have them use Educreations to create a presentation of their pictures. Students should use the voice recorder, pen, and typing tool to illustrate where each term is in the picture and prove that it is an example of the term. Share presentations with the class and discuss.
