Rahul and Samir were bosom friends; they were envied for the unconditional love they shared. Both of them had common interests. Trekking in mountains of pristine beauty was one of them. Once they went on trekking in the high Himalayas near Nanda Devi peak in Garhwal.
They always carried proper equipment with them. They enjoyed camping at places of scenic beauty. One evening while trekking they reached a village. They decided to put up their tent for the night. After having their supper, they fell asleep.
In the middle of night they were woken up by a loud noise; as they came to senses, they realized a big wild bear had attacked their tent. The sharp claws of the bear tore the tent; the bear attacked Rahul who was sleeping close to the place where bear had attacked.
The bear dragged Rahul out of the tent and was pouncing on him; Samir’s adrenalin shot up; he took out his pocket-knife, and stabbed the bear on its back. The bear gave a loud shriek of pain, and ran into the forest. Samir found Rahul lying on the ground writhing in pain. Rahul’s face had been badly grazed and mauled. He took him inside the tent. After giving him first aid, he ran to the nearby village. The villagers came running to help Rahul. With their help, Samir managed to take Rahul to the nearest hospital where he was treated. Within a week Rahul was well again.
They cut short their trek and went home. Rahul thanked Samir for not deserting him in the emergency.
