Bastille was the fortress- prison located in Paris. on 14 July 1789, the king commanded troops to move into the city. Altogether 7,000 men and women gathered in front of the town hall and formed a people's militia. They broke into a number of government buildings in search of arms. Finally, 700 people broke into the eastern part of the city where the fortress prison was located, named Bastille where they thought they could find guns and weapons. In the armed fight the commander of Bastille was killed and all the 7 prisoners were released. The fortress was demolished and its stone fragments were sold in the market for good.
