Apical Meristem :- located at the tip part of shoot and root.
Function:- it helps in increasing no. of cells by continuous cell division and elongate them.

Intercalary meristem:- located at the middle portion of stems, branches etc.
Function:- It helps in elongation of stems, branches etc.

Lateral meristem:- when the apical and intercalary meristems mature then these are called lateral meristem.
Function:- it increases the girth or thickness of plants.

Apical meristem: it helps to increase the length of the stem and the root. It is present at the tip of stem, root and their branches.

Lateral meristem: it helps to increase the girth of the stem and root. It is present in underneath bark of the trees.


Intercalary meristem: it helps to produce buds which develops in axillary branches an ld axillary floral branches. It is present at the base of the leaves or internode.
