★ COMPOUND EPITHELIUM:-

→ It is made up of more than one layer of cells.

→ It has limited role in secretion and absorption.

→ They cover the dry surface of skin, moist surface of buccal cavity, pharynx, inner lining of ducts of salivary glands and pancreatic ducts.

• Function:-

→ It protects against chemical & mechanical stresses.

→ Cell junctions: The junctions that provide structural and functional links between adjacent cells.

→ They are divided into 3 types:-

• Tight junctions: It helps to stop substances from leaking across a tissue.
• Adhering junctions: It performs cementing to keep neighbouring cells together.
• Gap junctions: It is for rapid transfer of ions, small molecules and sometimes big molecules.
