A nephron is the basic unit of structure in the kidney. A nephron is used separate to water, ions and small molecules from the blood, filter out wastes and toxins, and returned needed molecules to the blood. The nephron functions through ultrafiltration.

- these are the structural as well as functional units of kidney.
- it consists of Malpighian capsule(Bowman's capsule and glomerulus),proximal or first convoluted tubule(PCT), Middle U-shaped part (Loop of henle), distal convoluted tubule(DCT) and collecting duct.
