The pituitary gland is called the master gland because many of the hormones it secrets control the functioning of other endocrine glands of the body like adrenal gland, thyroid gland, testes and ovaries.

It secrets Thyroid simulating hormone (TSH) and growth hormone. TSH hormone helps in secreting thyroxine hormone. The growth hormone helps in proper and development of the body.
