Answer:

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) :

  • It is specialized in the synthesis of lipids and steroids.
  • Detoxification of drugs.
  • Associated with muscle contraction by release and uptake of Ca2+ ions.
  • Synthesis products of RER pass onto Golgi complex through SER.

Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) :

  • Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis and thus, RER are present in the cells which actively involved in the protein synthesis and secretion.
  • It provides precursors of enzymes for the formation of lysosome in Golgi complex.
  • It gives rise to SER.

Explanation:

rer looks rough under a microscope because it has particles called ribosomes attached to its surface the ribosomes are present in all active cell are the sites of protein manufacture

ser ( soft endoplasmic reticulum ) helps in the manufacture of fat molecules on lipids important for cell function some of these protein and lipids help in building the cell membrane this process is known as membrane biogenesis
