It plays a pivotal role in reproduction. Most stigmas are adapted to trap pollen with hairs, flaps and other surfaces to increase their efficiency.

Pollen tubes are produced by the male gametophytes of seed plants. They act as conduits to transport the male gamete cells from the pollen grain either from the stigma to the ovules at the base of the pistil or directly through ovule tissue in some gymnosperms

Gonads are the ovaries in females and testes in males. In these organs, females make gametes called eggs, and males make gametes called sperm.
