a prime minister is the real head. he/she is the leader of the majority party in the lok sabha. functions are

  • assigns different ranks and portfolios to the minister
  • can transfer a minister from one department to another and if necessary can ask the minister to resign
  • is the cheif advisor to the president. the president dismisses the ministers in the advise of the prime minister. judges of the SC and HC are also appointed by the advice if the pm. the president summons the prorogued if lok sabha in the advice of the president
  • pm represents the country at international conferences.
