Functions of Cell Wall

1.  It protects the cell from mechanical injury.

2. Cell wall permits the cells of plants, fungi and bacteria to which standard hypotonic conditions without bursting.

3. It has narrow pores, called its pits. Through them, fine stands of cytoplasm called plasmodesmata are able to cross the cell walls. Plant cells interact with each other through this cytoplasmic channels.

4. Cell wall help plant cells to tolerate greater changes in surrounding medium than animal cells.

5. Cell wall is to give the cellstrength and structure, and to filter molecules that pass in and out of the cell.

6. The cell wall provides mechanical strength and support.
