Centrioles are the nucleation pointsfor spindle formation during mitosis and meiosis, and also serve as the basal body for cilia and flagella. ...Centrioles function as the major microtubule organizing centers which is an important event in two major cellular processes - cell division and cilia and/or flagella formation.

Functions of centrioles:
1) Form spindle fibres, with the help of asters.
They are surrounded by radiating microtubules to form a ''star''(aster).
2) Initiate and regulate cell division.

In case of Animal cells only.

Thanks.
