The aortic arches function like a human heart. There are five pairs of aortic arches, which have the responsibility of pumping blood into the dorsal and ventral blood vessels. The dorsal blood vessels are responsible for carrying blood to the front of the earthworm'sbody. ... Earthworms do not have lungs.

Earthworms don't have a heart. The aortic arches act as a heart and they help in pumping the blood around the body of the earthworms. They don't have any chambers in their 'heart'. They also don't have lungs so they absorb oxygen through their skin and the oxygen gets into their skin and the oxygen then gets into their blood vessels. The dorsal blood vessel does the pumping work along with the 'heart' to keep the blood pressure steady.
