Function of medulla oblongata:-

(1) The medulla oblongata controls autonomic functions such as breathing, digestion, heart and blood vessel function, swallowing, and sneezing. 

(2) It connects the higher levels of the brain to the spinal cord.

(3) It is s responsible for several functions of the autonomous nervous system.

1) Most of involuntary and rhythmic activities of our body like respiration,peristaltic movement in alimentary canal,pumping of heart are controlled by medulla oblongata.
2) Also control unconditioned reflex actions like coughing,sneezing,hiccuping etc.
