(a) It legislates on matters that fall within the central list. The constitution also has a concurrent list which spells out areas in which both the central and state authorities have powers to legislate. Education falls within the concurrent list.

(b) The income and the expenditure to be incurred by the Central government are approved and controlled by the Union Parliament.

(c) The Parliament alone has the power to amend the provisions laid down in the constitution of India. Certain provisions can be amended only with the consent of the states, like the secular nature of the state. to legislate. Education falls within the concurrent list. powers

(d) The Parliament has the power to impeach the President and the judges of High Courts and the Supreme Court. Although this power is given to the Parliament, there is a strict procedure for the passage of impeachment. So far there has been no removal by impeachment.

(e) The Parliament approves proclamations made the President during the period of emergency.

(f) The Parliament exercises control over the executive. The efficiency or otherwise of the government is brought to right by a number of measures like the questions during Question Hour, adjournment motions and motion of no confidence.

(g) The two Houses jointly elect the Vice-President. The elected members of Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the state Legislative Assemblies form the electoral college for the election of the President.

(h) The Parliament also has powers to create a new state or alter the name and boundary of an existing state.
