Function of political parties are following

1 Contest elections-:In some countries like U.S.A members and followers choose the candidate to contest election. And in some countries like India top party leaders choose the candidate to contest elections.

2 Form and run government

The parties recruit and train the winning candidates and then make them minister to run the government as they want.

3 Make laws -:Formally laws are debated and passed in legislature.But since most of the members belong to a party so they go in direction of the party leaders.

4 Role of opposition -: Parties that lose in the election play role of opposition to the parties in power.They ask question or criticise government for its wrong policies and for its failures.
