Vacuoles :
- It is a membrane bound organelle present in the cell.
- It's membrane is known as tonoplast.
- Tonoplast is actually a selectively permeable membrane i.e allow only selected material to in and out of the cell.
- Vacuole is having more amount of ionic concentration than cytoplasm, so it helps in osmoregulation.
- Number of vacuole is less in plant cell as larger and central vacuoles are present in it.
- Whereas in animal cell, number of vacuole is more and size is small.
Types :
These are of three types :
- Food vacuoles : Helps in engulfing and digesting of food material.
- Gas vacuoles : These are found in cyanobacteria and helps in floating of organisms.
- Contractile vacuoles : These helps in excretion of material.
