Fundamental rights are the 'keystone' of democracy as they are 'guaranteed' by law and the Directive Principles constitute a significant part of the Constitution. The conscience of constitution is something that gives the overview and extract of the Constitution. Therefore, the Directive Principles and the Fundamental Rights have been described as the ‘Conscience of the Constitution’ by Granville Austin.

There are six fundamental rights in Part III of the Indian Constitution; these are:

1. Right to Equality

2. Right to Freedom

3. Right against Exploitation

4. Right to Freedom of religion

5. Cultural and Educational Rights

6. Right to Constitutional Remedies
