given ,

W= 6000 j

Time ,t = 1 minute

= 60 second.

power = work / time

= 6000 / 60 s

= 100w

= 0.1 kW.

Given : An engine supplies 40,000 J of heat energy per minute.

To find : The power of the engine is horse power.

Solution :

The power of the engine is approximately 0.894 HP

We can simply solve this numerical problem by using the following process. (our goal is to calculate the power of the engine in horsepower unit)

Now,

Energy = 40000 J

Time = 1 minute = 60 seconds

So,

Power = Energy / Time = 40000/60 = 666.67 W

Now, we have to convert the amount of power from Watt unit to Horse Power unit.

Now, we know that :

1 HP = 746 W (approx.)

or,

1 W = 1/746 W

or,

666.67 W = 666.67/746 = 0.894 HP (approx.)

Hence, the power of the engine is approximately 0.894 HP
