g. Explain the phenomena in which ph is balanced by us in our daily life? Any three phenomena.
Answers
Answer:
pH is defined as the measure of hydrogen ion concentration which is used for measuring the acidity or alkalinity of a given solution.
Following is the equation that is used for calculating the pH:
pH = -log[H+]
Importance of pH testing in everyday life
In the human body, all the physiological reactions take place in the pH of 7-7.8. pH is very important in our digestive system.
In the stomach, hydrochloric acid is secreted as food enters the stomach. It turns the pH of the stomach between 1 and 3.
This pH is important for the activation of the enzyme pepsin, which helps in the digestion of protein in food.
When the pH of the mouth falls below 5.5. Our tooth starts decaying.
Tooth powder and toothpaste which are used for cleaning of teeth are basic in nature.

Answer:
IMPORTANCE OF pH IN OUR DAILY LIFE
(i) Role of pH in digestion
our stomach secretes gastric juice which contains HCl acid which helps in killing the germs and bacteria in the food .However if large amount of acid is secreted in our stomach due to over eating or eating spicy food then to get rid of this acidity we take weak bases called antacids which neutralizes the excess of acid
eg: Mg(OH)2 or milk of magnesia
(ii) Role of pH in the mouth
saliva secreted in the mouth is slightly alkaline (basic) .But when we intake food some of its particles is degraded by bacteria present in the mouth and thereby producing acids which leads to the damage of the enamel layer .So we should clean our teeth with toothpastes which are of basic nature neutralizes the excess acid and prevents tooth decay.
(iii) plants and animals are pH sensitive .
Human body works in the pH range of 7.0 to 7.8
Aquatic life is disturbed when acid rain having pH less than 5.6 occurs . It lowers the pH and creates acidic medium.
therefore pH should be maintained.
thankyou !
