1. It is not advisable to sleep under a tree at night, give reason?

ans.  In the night there is no photosynthesis due to the absence of sunlight but respiration goes on in the plant cells. Therefore there is lot of carbon dioxide and less of oxygen around the tree in the night. ... Therefore it is not advisable to sleep under the tree in the night.

2. Why do we yawn when we are sleepy or drowsy?

ans. When you feel sleepy..it is actually the brain cells which are in a sense of saying..going to fall asleep for lack of oxygen (hypoxia or hypoxemia). Also when we feel drowsy, our respiratory rate being controlled by reflex centres in our brain falls. This is a vicious cycle. The yawn breaks this cycle.

3.  Why do mountaineers climbing high mountains carry oxygen cylinders with them?

ans. Mountaineers carry oxygen cylinder while climbing high mountains to avoid suffocation. As we go higher and higher, at high altitudes, amount of oxygen present in the atmosphere is determined by atmospheric pressure. ... This decreases the number of oxygen molecules per breath making the person suffocated at high altitudes.

4. Why fish die when taken out of water?

ans. because Gills are richly supplied with blood capillaries and can readily absorb the oxygen dissolved in water. ... When fishes are taken out of water, the supply of oxygen to the fishes is cut as the fishes cannot absorb and breathe using the oxygen present in the atmosphere. Hence, they die after some time.

5. If you hold your breathe for sometime and then release it,you have to breathe heavily after that. why?

ans. When we hold breathe for some time and then release it, the amount of oxygen required to produce energy in the body decreases. We need energy to perform all the functions of the body. So, in order to match the level of oxygen intake needed to produce energy, we start breathing heavily.
