By- Rishika
The Dimapur Automobile Association organized 40 free Pollution Under Control (PUC) check-up camps throughout the city on June 5, World Environment Day, to increase public awareness of the rising amount of pollution. The camps also sought to educate car owners on the value of safe automobiles and a healthy environment.
Around 2,200 PUC check-up camps were held this year as part of SIAM's special program SAFE (Society for Automotive Fitness and Environment) in 256 cities throughout the country. The goal was to evaluate roughly 50,000 vehicles this year as opposed to 25,000 vehicles at 1,200 dealerships in more than 250 cities last year.
The Indian motor sector, according to SIAM's director general Dilip Chenoy, has always been a leader in environmental protection. "One such project is SIAM-SAFE, where all interested parties and participants come together to raise awareness of a cleaner environment among vehicle owners and society at large. These PUC check-up sessions across the nation are one such initiative to honor World Environment Day "added he. "SAFE is happy to associate itself with this mammoth programmed in cooperating with automobile manufacturers and hopes that this initiative influences the users in ensuring that regular maintenance is done for the vehicles," said Harjeet Singh, president of SAFE and assistant vice president of Hero Honda. A substantial number of vehicles, from two-wheelers to commercial vehicles, were registered during this activity.
