Samudragupta is known as the Napoleon of India.

witnessing the extent of his victories A.V Smith has rightly called him The Napoleon of India .

His court poet Harisen has described about his victories and military expenditure in his record in Allahabad prashasti.

These records are inscribed on the same pillar on which Ashoka's edicts are inscribed.

The rulers and countries which were won by Samudragupta can be divided into 5 parts -

  1. The states of Ganga Yamuna doab
  2. States of eastern Himalayas .
  3. The bordering states of eastern Vindhya range .
  4. Eastern Deccan and states of South India
  5. The Shaka and kushana States

As per Allahabad prashasti he was never defeated in any battle he possessed a very powerful navy through which is strengthened his foreign relations .

Samudragupta perform the ashvamedha yagya also.

He was worshipper of Vishnu .

• He performed the Ashvamedha Yaga and issued coins bearing this legend.

• His military expeditions were mentioned in Allahabad pillar inscription.

• This inscription was written by Harisena, the court poet in Sankrit language.

• This pillar contains the other information of Ashoka and Jahangir but it is famous for Samudragupta.

• He is considered as "Indian Napoleon" as he never got defeated.

• But, this statement is wrong because, Samudragupta lived in 3rd century and Napoleon lived in 18th century.

• Hence, Napoleon should get the name of Samudragupta.
