शहरों से लेकर गाँव देहात में इस आंदोलन का असर दिखाई देने लगा और सन् 1857 के स्वंतंत्रता संग्राम के बाद असहयोग आंदोलन से पहली बार अंग्रेजी राज की नींव हिल गई , इसी दौरान फरवरी 1922 में किसानों के एक समूह ने संयुक्त प्रांत के गोरखपुर जिले के चोरी चौरा पुरवा में एक पुलिस स्टेशन पर आक्रमण कर उसमें आग लगा दी।
