meiosis is essential as it halves the no of chromosomes coming from both male and female

Gametes for sexual reproduction shall be formed after meiosis because during meiosis, the genetic material undergoes recombination and variations are produced which are very essential for evolution and increase the risk of survival. Mitosis does not generate variation and hence, is not favoured for the production of gametes.
