the term mahatma means great soul. so ,the phrase mahatma gandhi means gandhi, the greatest soul.At first he repudiated the title and begged his friends note to call him by the midest of serve disappointments, when performing called him by that exalted title he said emphatically, 'I do not wish that you should give me that on anymore. I am the opposite of Mahatma I am Alpatma '.But buy this very act he has become great byreason of the way in which he has ordered his life A man is to be just by conduct and character and not merely by the opinion he holds all even the Doctrine to which he devotes his life and the title of Mahatma rest on the greatness which he has won by lofty character.
Gandhi ji subject himself to rigorous self examination , his complete selflessness, his forgiveness, his inner courage and his piety , a man of qualities. and he his rewarded as 'father of nation '
