It is quite true Gandhi acted in response to the voice of his conscience. The Champaran episode proves this fact. During his stay at Chamapran, he noticed the people of Champaran really needed help. He felt they needed to be self-reliant to come out of their miseries. So he decided to stay there and fight for their cause. He also saw the poverty and backwardness of the people there; he really wanted to help them; he arranged many schools and dispensaries for them. He appealed to his disciples to offer their services for the betterment and welfare of the people. All the above mentioned facts show he was a great leader indeed.
