Answers
Mahatma Gandhi played a very impotant role in education in India.
If we look into the “Directive Principles of State Policy” then it includes some provisions of Gandhi’s principles as well.
But first we should know what The Directive Principles of State Policy are?
Answer: The Indian Constitution has laid down certain principles which the government must keep in mind while making or executing laws. These principles are known as the “Directive Principles of State Policy”.They give directions to the state for undertaking certain things for the welfare of the people.
The main provisions of the Directive Principles of State Policy have been divided into five parts:
1: Principles relating to Economic Policy.
2: Principles for the Protection of Environment and monuments.
3: Directive Principles Pertaining to law, justice and Administration.
4: Principles for International Peace and Security.
5: Gandhian Principles or principles pertaining to social, educational and cultural uplift.
So the last provision includes provisions about social, educational and cultural uplift. In this many principles are there but I am explaining principles which are related to education.
1: Provision for free and compulsory education for the children - Article 45 lays down that the State shall endeavour to provide, within a period of ten years from the commencement of this constitution, for free and compulsory education for all children until they complete the age of fourteen years.
2: Promotion of educational economic interest of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other weaker sections- Article 46 lays down that the State shall promote with special care the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of the people, in particular of the scheduled castes and the scheduled tribes, and shall protect them from social injustice and all forms of exploitation.
