The Ganga River System
The Ganga River is the most important river of India both from the point of view of it's basin and cultural significance. It rises from the Gangotri Glacier in the Himalayas near Gaumukh in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The river finally displaces into the Bay of Bengal near the Sagar Island. It gats water from the Gomti river,Ghaghara river,Gandaki river and Kosi river including Yamuna river.Ot cuts through the Himalayas and then goes to meet Alakananda at Badrimnath in Uttarakhand. Then it goes to Rudraprayag,Karnaprayag and Vishnuprayag by getting water from it's tributaries. The river has a length of 2,525km.
