Gandhiji first met Nehur at the yearly meeting of Indian National congress on 1916 held at Lucknow.  It was the year of his wedding with Kamala.

In the autobiography of Nehru, he writes about “My first meeting with Gandhiji was simply about the time of Lucknow Congress during the Christmas, 1916.

Everyone admired him for his excellent fight in South Africa, but he also seemed very different and distant as well as un-political for many young men.
