Gardeners gently dig up the soil around the roots of the garden herbs because the soil which is at upper most layer have to sustain everything that's why it's fertility decreases.
so, to increase it's fertility farmers did it.
another reason is that they did it because to get the air inside the soil. it makes the soil more fertile so that the plants could grow properly.......
