Digging makes soil aerated, and it also turns the hard particles in the soil into finer, loose particles. If the soil is not dug at regular intervals before cultivating crops, then it would become difficult for the roots of the plant to obtain air through pores in its roots. Eventually, the plant would wilt and die.
