Gases do not settle to the bottom because of its kinetic energy. They are always in random motion. Because of small mass, the effect of gravity on them is negative. Gases, by definition, are the least dense state of matter. The material that is most dense will sink to the bottom. The material that is least dense will rise to the top. Gases are least dense so they will rise not sink.
