since molecules of gases are in continous motion(they have negligible forces of attraction),they hit the walls of the container.therefore a force is exerted on that area.since force per unit area is pressure ,we say that gases exert pressure on the walls of the container

Explanation:

Gases have high KE due to which particles keeps on moving rapidly as a result particles hits the walls of the container and exert pressure.
