A molecules of a gas posses high kinetic energy and random motion. the molecules keep heating the walls of the container. as a result the pressure is exerted by the gas.

let me give you a simple example

if you see a glass filled with half water in it then you'll see that the upper part of the glass is filled with air. so that's how you can understand whether there is a presence of air or not

one more example :- if you see a balloon filled with air, then you'll come to know that the air has a specific shape
