Villa for Sale written by Sacha Guitry is a story of a villa that is near Joinville, French Hollywood which is for sale. Juliette, the owner of the villa, wants to dispose it off as soon as possible, however no customer turns up. Nevertheless a couple Mr. Gaston and his wife Ms Jeanne comes to see the villa.
However, Mr. Gaston is not too pleased in buying the house since Jeanne wants to buy the house for her parents though Juliette reduces her offer from two hundred and fifty thousand francs to two hundred thousand francs. But the story takes an interesting turn when another person and American lady who wants to make films in a studio that is near the villa, comes to buy the house and wrongly presumes Mr. Gaston to be the owner of the house and she makes a fiery deal with Mr. Gaston.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Mr. Gaston pretends to be the owner and finalises the deal with that person for a huge profit that is for three hundred thousand francs. After this he agrees to buy the villa from Juliette for two thousand francs, although Jeanne later is not too much interested after having seen the entire villa. This Mr. Gaston makes a profit for one hundred thousand francs.
EXPLANATION:
- Mr. Gaston was an opportunist who took advantage of the situation deceitfully. This was not the right thing to do. When Mr. Gaston comes to know that the American customer had mistaken him to be the owner of the villa, he should have displayed honesty and told who the real owner was.
- He should not cheat and graciously allowed Juliette to make the profit on the sale of her Villa which she was desperate to sell (even if it were at loss). Mr. Gaston should have been kind and sympathetic to Juliette’s problem and not cheated her or took advantage of her naivety and innocence.
