hello friends ✌️✌️⚡⚡❤️❤️☺️☺️
✌️✌️while the demarcation between an art house cinema and commercial cinema is not always absolute and it becomes a subjective position for the audience to judge, there are certain attributes that helps in making a better judgement-✌️✌️
❤️❤️commercial cinema is often made on formulaic lines with certain tropes like comedian, a villain, a romantic subplot, song and dance elements etc. art house cinema are more rooted more character oriented and don’t fall into hero villain trope often. even their songs are not set pieces but rather a part of narrative. art house cinema often delve into more niche and often abstract themes that commercial cinema may not give space❤️❤️
☺️☺️partly because commercial cinema caters to a larger audience to earn money. art house cinema has a larger prerogative than just earning money and often these films caters to art of film making (making them more viable for film festivals and award ceremonies)☺️☺️
⚡⚡mostly commercial movies are colorful, flamboyant, glossy by their look. masala cinema is more about style than substance. art house cinema often have modest (though brilliant sometimes) production values and more real look, often intentionally to give it a real and raw feeling but also due to budget constraints⚡⚡
☺️❤️to illustrate what i just said movies of shyam benegal, satyajit ray, ritwik ghatak etc often are classified as art house cinema due to their innovative storytelling non-linear storytelling, realist representation and a commitment to the craft of cinema. you can appreciate the cinematography, acting and direction etc. you can be mind boggled by the abstract film making of duvidha etc but films like sholay, deewar etc are pure escapist fare meant for sheer entertainment.⚡✌️
✌️⚡❤️☺️having said that there are films that bridges the gap between art and commercial by bringing realism to commercial cinema (movies of hrishikesh mukherjee, basu chaterjee, bimal roy etc.) or making real cinema more commercially viable (page3, pink, neerja, aandhi etc.)☺️❤️⚡✌️
hope it's help
