Geeta collects a heap of waste material from her house. She has- vegetable
peels, tea leaves, small polythene from grocery, empty cartons, medicine
bottles, broken plastic ware and old clothes. She segregates them and
decides their disposal in the best possible way.
a) Why is segregation an essential step for proper waste disposal?
b) What treatment Geeta would have given to vegetable peels and tea
leaves?
c) Sort out one material from the list which is most threatful for the

a) Waste segregation is important as it makes the process of recycling easier. Improper waste segregation can create chronic health problems, so it's important to dispose of and segregate the waste to reduce the chance of mixing hazardous waste with domestic waste.

b) The vegetables peels and tea leaves could be used as bio - fertilizer as and Geeta can used them as fertilizers.

c) Small polythene bags are the most threatful to the environment amongst the list. This is because the polythene bags can't be degraded.
