Geeta got a doubt, 'Why atomic nucleus contains proton and neutrons inside it? Why can't electrons and neutrons?' Can you help to clarify her doubt? Explain.

It has a very simple answer.

An atom primarily consists of neutrons, protons and electrons. Neutrons and protons are present in the nucleus of an atom. Electrons revolve around the nucleus. Protons have a positive charge of +1e (e= 1.6 x 10>-19 Coulombs) and Electrons have a negative charge -1e. Neutrons have zero charge so they are neutral particles

Size matters ultimately, the size of proton is almost equal to the size and mass of neutron. Electron is a very light particle which moves at a very fast speed. They are hyperactive particles so cannot bind with neutrons due to lack of nuclear and electrostatic force.

On the other hand, Proton and neutron can bound together due to presence of nuclear force. They both have smaller subatomic particles, so when protons or neutrons get close to each other, they exchange particles (mesons), ultimately binding them together.

Hope it helps!!!!

Answer:

Explanation:

i]the nucleus is formed by nucleous

they are protons and neutrons. Inside the nucleus the neutrons and protons are fused together to produce some energy by lossing some mass. By the fusion reaction.

ii] The energy liberated during this process is called binding energy. And the loss in mass of the nucleus is called mass defect.

iii]the mass defect is directly proportional to binding energy of the nucleus.

iv]with liberated binding energy the protons and neutrons and bind strongly and give more stability to the nucleus.

v]suppose electrons are involved in this fusion reaction instead of protons then the electrons do not lose their mass and liberate binding energy .The mass of the electron is 9.1 ×10 ^ - 31 kgs this is very small when compared to the mass of the proton .And so the fusion reaction lockout and the electrons does not have right stuff to participate in the fusion reaction and hence the stability of the nucleus is very less .so the nucleus is must and should made with protons and neutrons only.
