Discrimination based on gender is a common civil rights violation that takes many forms , including sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination and unequal pay for women who do the same jobs as men.Unfortunately, most U.S. women are all too familiar with all of these inequalities. This section offers in-depth information on unlawful gender and sex discrimination in a number of settings -- including employment and education -- and provides links to key federal laws and U.S. Supreme Court decisions related to gender and sex discrimination. Gender discrimination laws also protect the rights of transgender individuals.

GENDER DISCRIMINATION:
Gender discrimination means someone is treated less because of their sex, usually woman is treated less than a man.
CAUSES:
1. Poverty: People say that we have to spend much money for girls for their marriage. So many people don't encourage girl child and give equal importance.
2.illiteracy: Illiteracy is main cause of gender inequality. Some parents don't want their child to get educated and work. They think girls are only for household and educating them is a financial burden.
3. Social Customs, Beliefs and Practices: In many traditions girls were given less importance and treated men as great. This also lead to gender inequality.
