pragish: why gene is called the unit of heredity
pragish: give reason,i mean to say.
parineeta05: A gene is a DNA segment that provides all the information to produce a single protein or functional RNA. The protein may have a structural role in the body, or it may be enzyme that does other things.

It is the unit of inheritance because any thing less would not give enough information. Any more would give two proteins. The meaning of “unit” is a single entity.
