  1. Amphibians live in both aquatic and terrestrial habitats
  2. Body is divided into head and trunk.tail is absent.
  3. Eggs → larva (aquatic) → adult (land and water)
  4. They either have 2 pairs of limbs or no limbs.
  5. Skin is smooth, moist and scale less ( ceacilian scales)
  6. Possess complete digestive system
  7. Respiration occurs through gills ( tadpole stage), skin, lungs
  8. They have a closed circulatory system.their heart has three chambers.
  9. Larvae excretes ammonia whereas adults excrete urea
  10. They are unisexual and fertilization is external.
  11. They have a pentaductile limb.
  12. The amphibia class is further divided into 3 orders.,
  • Apoda - ex= caecilian, blind worm
  • Eurodela / cardata - ex= salamander, newts
  • Anura - ex = frogs and toads
