Generally oxides of non metals are acidic in nature why????

avtarJattana1: non metals form acidic and neutral oxide with oxygen ,ex carbon forms acidic oxide like co2 and hydrogen forms neutral oxide like H2O
sakshi00121: hm thanks

Reaction with oxygen. Remember that metals react with oxygen in the air to produce metal oxides, like magnesium oxide. ... Non-metal oxides such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are responsible for acid rain. They dissolve in the water in the clouds to form acidic solutions.

Most non metal oxides are acidic but not all. For example carbon monoxide is not acidic.
The addition of water to a non metal oxide results in a compound that consists of a non metal atom surrounded by oxo(=O) and Hydroxy(-OH) .For example, So3+H2Ogives as H2SO4 .
Such a molecule readily lose a proton from one its hydroxy groups because the resulting anion is stabilized by oxygen atoms and electronegativity non metal atom. Therefore it is acidic. Such compound is called oxyacid
(The structure of sulphuric acid is as shown in the figure)
